Last Man Standing Ain't (a man)

There's a winner already in the college portion of Station Casino's Last Man Standing contest and it's a woman. Playing under the name "Ms./Mrs. Football," the lady whupped the guys to take the whole pot of $38,375. A Station blogger wrote, "We may have to rename this contest." On the Pro side, five players remain.

Contests

Even with the Patriots losing to the Browns, 59 players (yes, 59!) went 13-0 last week to split the prize in the Coast's Pick the Pros contest. One player won the $10,000 first prize (based on the tie-breaker), while the other 58 still netted a tidy $344.83 apiece. In Station's Great Giveaway, 24 players were 13-0 and nine were 0-13, making a total of 33 perfects in that contest. Really? With no winners in the Lucky's contest for the ninth week in a row, the carryover makes the prize $39,740 for getting a perfect card this week. The contest's pick-all format makes these carryovers unimportant, as the prize is far too low to justify the $5 fee to play.

Following Fezzik

This may have been the worst week in the career of the best football-contest player on the planet. Fezz rolled an ugly 1-4 at the M, catapulting himself out of the lead he held for one week. In fact, his deadly week 9 results put him in trouble in all three contests. It's a high-variance game. Fezzik's records in the major contests appear below (with last week's results in parentheses).

A Rare Deal

The steakhouse Rare 120 at the Hard Rock has a fantastic Monday-only deal, where from 6 to 11 pm, everything on the menu (except alcohol) is half-price. Yes, everything-the big steaks, seafood, appetizers, sides, desserts, the works. Given the prices in this place, you could be looking at close to a $100 happy-hour saving for two. A rib-eye was $22. A super Kobe beef carpaccio was $7. Strong play!

Best MNF Parties

In addition to the Rare 120 deal, we popped into O'Aces bar and the Sporting House. O'Aces used to be one of the best non-casino bars for Monday Night Football, but the free buffet is gone and the video poker deals during the game are diminished from their former glory. Rolling Rock draft is $2.75, but that's about the best of it there. The Sporting House is the new sports bar replacing ESPN Zone at New York-New York. It's very similar to ESPN, with TVs everywhere and a good vibe. The NY-NY sports book is right outside the door and you can see the board with all the lines from the window on the second floor. It's actually the closest thing we've seen to Lagasse's Stadium at Palazzo. The only problem is no deals during the game; a draft Bud is $6.50. Still, we're adding it to the recommended list below.

Good: Sam's Town (free dog or hot dog & beer; Suncoast (free dog & beer); South Point ($1 dogs, all-u-can-drink $15, cash drawings); Palazzo - Lagasse's Stadium (the Gucci standard for MNF parties); M Resort ($2 beers); Aria - Union lounge (half-price drinks and appetizers); any Station or Fiesta sports book ($1 drafts and dogs); Playboy Club; the Sporting House at New York-New-York.

Bad: Silverton, Sunset Station (Club Madrid), Cannery, Rampart, Sahara (NASCAR Café), PBR, Rockhouse, McFadden's, and Palms.
